The Skoda Fabia had failed to do wonders for Skoda company and the car did not manage to compete well in the market owing to the strong dominance of Maruti Swift and subsequent prominent presence of Hyundai i20 in the segment. Although Skoda is not planning to phase out Fabia, it is now definitely intending to launch a sub-Fabia car in the Indian market.
In a conversation with media, Thomas Kuehl, Director Sales & Marketing, Skoda India stated, “All this while, we have been in the high level of the lifestyle. People like our cars, we need to be a little more affordable.”
The model is expected to be the Skoda Joyster hatchback model and will compete with Maruti Alto and upcoming new Hyundai HA 800cc model. The new Skoda Joyster will be powered by 1.0L three-cylinder petrol and 1.2L three cylinder diesel engine. The car is expected to be priced between Rs. 3-4 lakh keeping it competitive and making it an attractive buy in the small car segment.
