Honda Siel Cars India Limited intends to make its cars more cost competitive in the Indian market. The company is investing close to Rs. 300 crores at its Tapukara Plant in Rajasthan to build power train units and transmission components. As per Honda officials, manufacturing critical components will make cars quite cost competitive and will improve financial yields.

Honda’s Tapukara manufacturing unit in Alwar District of Rajasthan which features world-class manufacturing techniques, was inaugurated by Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Rajasthan, Mr Takeo Fukui, President & CEO, Honda Motors Co. and Mr Hideaki Domichi, Japanese Ambassador in India amidst a galaxy of senior Government and Honda officials, stake holders and Honda partners in 2008.

Now the company intends to make its second passenger car manufacturing facility operational by end-2011. It will help company to manufacture important components for its cars locally which will eventually bring down the cost of its cars. Currently, these parts are being imported from Thailand and Indonesia. "We are looking at making the Indian manufacturing facility as significant production base for critical components by leveraging the low-cost manufacturing here for our global operations,” said HSCI president and CEO Takashi Nagai.
