Volkswagen group has started updating the software on the EA189 series of diesel engines with Skoda being the first one to issue a recall. Skoda is recalling the Superb with the 2.0-litre diesel engine to begin with as an aftermath of Dieselgate in India.

The software update will be done in a phased manner across the country and Skoda owners will be sent an invitation to book an appointment with the nearest dealer for the update. Skoda owners can also use this link http://www.skoda-auto.co.in/service/pages/service-campaign.aspx to find out if and when their car needs to go for the update. Skoda has said that there are no safety or driveability concerns and the software update for the Superb cars will be done free of cost.

Apart from Skoda, the EA 189 is used by Volkswagen as well as Audi cars including the Skoda Laura, Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Jetta, Audi A3, A4 and A6 sedans and the Q3 and Q5 SUVs. We can expect the other two manufacturers to issue recalls soon.
