Renault’s upcoming hatchback Kayou, codenamed XBA, will make its global debut on May 20th 2015 in India. Ahead of its unveiling in India, a French website has rendered the speculative images of the small car that looks quite close to the one on test in India. However, the logo used here is of Dacia, Renault's affordable car brand.

The Renault Kayou will be produced at Renault Nissan alliance facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The high-level localization will help the company to price it competitively against rivals.

The small hatchback will be powered with a new 800cc, 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine is likely to deliver a power output of 45bhp – 50bhp. An AMT (automatic manual transmission) might also be offered at a later stage.

The Renault Kayou will be the first car based on a new CMF-A (Common Module Family Affordable) platform in India. The rendered images suggest that the car will receive an aluminum plate on lower bumper and body coloured front bumper. It will also get a single wiper blade, black wing mirrors and 13 – 14-inches wheels wrapped with slime rubber. Features like driver’s airbag, front power windows, mobile-charging point, speakers etc. will be available only on top-spec model.

The Renault Kayou, to be positioned below the Renault Pulse, is likely to be priced around Rs. 3 lakh – 4 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon the launch, it will take on likes of Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and upcoming Tata Nano GenX and Datsun Red-GO.
