The verdict in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving actor Salman Khan is going to be delivered by the court on May 6th, 2015. Superstar Salman Khan, known for his roles in films like Wanted and Dabangg, is fighting “culpable homicide not amount to murder” along with “death by rash act” charges. The incident that took place on September 28, 2002, in Mumbai’s Bandra locality resulted in the death of one person and serious injuries to four others after the actor’s car rammed into them.

This case has been going on for over a decade and has seen several ups and downs. Shrikant Shivade has been defending Salman Khan against Pradip Gharat, the public prosecutor, in the case. According to a report by TOI, the history of this case is filled with disagreements between the two parties, right from their opinions on the route taken by the car and several other details. The only two things both parties agree on are the resulting death of a person and presence of musician Kamal Khan in the back seat of the vehicle.

The local police had arrested Salman Khan on the same day of the incident and he was taken to a hospital in the area, where he gave blood samples. Both the defence and prosecution have been engaged in a battle regarding who was driving the car, the number of occupants, registration of the FIR (and its content), alcohol level in blood and many other specifics. One key factor in the entire case has been the statement made by Khan’s former bodyguard Late Ravindra Patil, who had reportedly asked the actor to slow down.

Khan’s defence counsel maintains to this day that the actor’s car drove to Rain Bar in Juhu, via the Mariott Hotel, to reach Hill Road bakery. On the other hand, the police say the car arrived at its destination from St. Andrews Road, which is completely different to what the actor’s side has claimed.
