Tata Nano, the cheapest car in the Indian market and now a synonym of economical drive, could soon be seen cruising on the roads of neighbor Pakistan. A leading Pakistani business group has shown interest in importing vehicles from India including the small car Tata Nano.
As per recent media reports, a Pakistani business house - International Multi Group of Companies – had earlier shown interest in imports of CNG buses. In a statement given to PTI on Tuesday, IMGC Global Chairman Amjad Rashid said, "We already have a letter of intent with the Tata Group as we were interested in their CNG buses. At a later stage, if restrictions in the trade policies of both India and Pakistan are removed, we are interested in bringing the Nano to Pakistan."
However, due to restrictions in Pakistan’s trade policy, the plan of importing CNG buses from India has been held up. As per the current norms of Pakistan trade policy, vehicles are generally mandatorily assembled in the country. On the other hand, the policies of Reserve Bank of India do not allow investments and joint-ventures in Pakistan.
Mr. Rashid added, "We raised these issues with Indian Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar when he was in Islamabad last month for talks with the Pakistani Commerce Secretary and he promised to get these restrictions removed."
