      Nissan India sales dip 40 percent in April 2011

      The Indian unit of leading Japanese car maker Nissan has registered a decline of over 40 percent in its sales in the month of April 2011. The company managed to sell 1,198 units of its vehicle in the country during this month as compared to 2,060 units sold in the March 2011. The major factors behind this sharp decline in sales include rising interest rates and high base effect.

      The sales of company’s luxury sedan Teana dipped to just 7 units as against 24 units sold in the same month last year. Moreover, the sales of company’s luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) X-Trail dipped to mere 2 units from a total of 23 units in the month of April 2010.

      However, on an annual basis, company has registered a sharp rise in its sales to 1,207 units as compared to just 47 units sold in the same month last year. Nissan India had rolled-out its compact hatchback Micra in the country in July 2010, followed by the launch of its diesel version in December. The Nissan Micra model has been registering a good response in both domestic as well as overses market.
