      Official : Nissan India to phase out X-Trail SUV and 370Z

      Nissan India has announced to phase out X-Trail SUV and 370Z coupe, however the luxury sedan, Nissan Teana will continue to be on sale. The Japanese auto cos envisages to focus on the locally manufactured models. India is a thriving market and Nissan eyes to increase its market share from a meagre 1.1% to 10% in the coming three four years. At the recently concluded 12th Auto Expo held in Greater Noida, Nissan exhibited the upgraded Sunny sedan, tweaked Evalia, GT-R GT500 and Friend-Me concept. Apart from this the company’s low cost brand, Datsun also showcased Go hatchback, Go+ MPV and Redi-Go concept.

      Apart from the above mentioned offerings, the company is also developing a compact sedan and a SUV for the domestic market. Over the last few years, the sub-four meter segment has prospered and Nissan is keen at inducting new products in this segment. Details have not been revealed by the company about the development of new cars for the Indian automotive industry, but it is being believed that the upcoming compact sedan and SUV could be conceived on the Micra platform.

      The sudden shift to compact sedan and SUV segment for auto makers in India is courtesy continually dipping sales since last few months. However, with the recent excise duty cuts, car prices have dropped and monthly sales are expected to revive. Nissan too announced a price reduction of 4% to 6% for the following models in India portfolio; Micra Active, Micra, Sunny, Evalia, Terrano and Teana, which was implemented from February 18, 2014.
