After a grand launch at 2014 Auto Expo, Maruti’s new entrant in the small car segment, Celerio, has hit the bull’s-eye by registering 14,000 bookings in just two weeks after its launch. At an average of 1000 bookings per day, Celerio definitely has a long way to go.

Maruti Suzuki India’s AMT gamble seems to be paying off well, as the demand for AMT version is more than the MT variants. Celerio AMT accounts for 51% of the total bookings the hatchback has received so far. The reason behind the growing popularity of Celerio AMT could be its excellent ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 23.1% which is 5% more frugal than the MT version. Since AMT gearbox is imported, therefore it is likely that the waiting period for the AMT version will increase.

Celerio has come as a replacement for Maruti A-Star and Estilo hatchbacks in India. The introductory prices for Celerio range were already very competitive, however with the recent excise duty cuts, it has further been sliced. The hatchback has seen a price reduction of Rs 14,000 (14 seems to be lucky for Celerio), the starting price for Celerio has been revised from Rs 3.90 lakh to Rs 3.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This seems to be working in the favour of Celerio.

The hatchback is powered with a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that pumps out a maximum power of 67 BHP along with a peak torque of 90 Nm. A five speed manual transmission and an automatic manual transmission are on offer.
