Speaking more on the idea, Andy Palmer, chief planning officer, Nissan Motor Corp said, “We are actively looking at the Leaf for India....I think there is a lot of potential for that car here, there is no doubt electric cars are the future. The product is there what we need is infrastructure. Charging is a big challenge. We are open to collaboration with local manufacturers on that. That is the fastest and easiest way of setting up charging stations.”

Currently Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra has been well known in this turf with their fleet of Reva electric cars. Nissan has been considering the Indian market seriously and has stated that it is open to collaboration with the local manufacturers who may assist with infrastructure support for electric cars which is indeed a primary reason for concern. Pawan Goenka, executive director and president, automotive, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “We are open to collaboration with any company that has a vision for electric vehicles in India.”
