Backed by robust sales, Mahindra Bolero is one of the most popular vehicles in UV segment. After rolling out comprehensively tweaked variant of Scorpio in domestic market, the company is now working aggressively on Next gen Bolero. The new Bolero is expected to be launched in India by 2015-16. Snapped a couple of times undergoing test runs in India, the SUV being developed under the codename U301 is expected to be offered in various body styles.
Among the various body styles will be a sub-four meter version likely to carry a price tag of Rs 7 lakh.Aimed at the cab segment is the longer wheelbase variant of the SUV that will share the same platform as underpinned by the sub-four meter variant. Hydroformed chassis will be borrowed from the new Scorpio rendering flexibility to the platform. The latter frame chassis used in Scorpio is flexible in nature and it includes three parts-front, mid and tail section in varied track widths. Use of the hydroformed ladder frame chassis has enabled M&M to cut down on the weight of the SUV and make the chassis stern that in turn aides in improved handling. Same platform will be used by the MUV variant of the 2015 U301 Bolero .
Other than borrowing the same chassis, Mahindra will also use the same suspension set up in U301 Bolero. Power is expected to come from the 1.5 litre, twin-trubo diesel powertrain in the sub-four meter variant. This is the same engine that current serves in Quanto. Rumors also suggest that four wheel drive variants of the U301 Bolero are likely to be introduced in domestic market.
