Skoda India is set to launch an all-new generation of the Superb tomorrow. Unlike the outgoing model which was introduced as a mere facelift of the older generation Superb, the car that’s to be launched tomorrow is based on an entirely new MQB platform from the Volkswagen Group. Design wise, the new Superb looks a lot sleeker and contemporary compared to the outgoing model. The sharp-edged design includes headlights with illuminated eyelash-like cues, a coupe-esque profile, 17-inch alloy wheels and crystal cut taillights.
The outgoing Superb is known for its class-leading levels of space and comfort and this new model takes the game even further. Not only is the interior comparatively roomier than before, the overall ambience is better too, thanks to the new design and improved upholstery. As for equipment, Skoda India will offer panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, piano black inserts with ambient lighting, SmartLink connectivity for the touchscreen audio system, puddle lamps, 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, electric operation for the boot lid and lots more as standard on top-spec trim.
Under the hood, the new Superb will be offered with two engine options – a 2-litre TDI diesel and a 1.8-litre TSI petrol with close to 175bhp and 178bhp respectively. Both these familiar engines will come paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. We expect Skoda India to introduce a manual version at a later stage. The new Skoda Superb will officially go on sale tomorrow, with prices expected to start from Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will continue to compete with a host of similarly sized and more expensive cars including the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
