Ahead of its world premiere on August 1, 2015 at the Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale, the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been teased again in a video that reveals its exterior design elements. Just like the existing model, the new-gen Pajero Sport will be imported via CKD (completely knocked down) route, and then assembled locally in India.
Power for the new Pajero Sport will come from an all-new 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine that is paired to a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission. It’s the same engine that also powers the new Triton (L200) pickup. This powertrain is capable to produce a maximum power of 181PS and 430Nm of torque. The new model will continue to feature the 2WD (two-wheel drive), and optional Super Select 4WD drive system with a low-range gearbox and differential lock.
Claimed to be more robust and safer than the current model, the new-gen Pajero Sport will be designed on the Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution safety body construction system. The car sits on the ladder-frame platform, and is expected to be equipped with 8-way adjustable driver seat and steering mounted controls. On the outside, the SUV features ‘Dynamic Shield’ design with the GR-HEV-inspired X-shaped grille, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheel, vertically-stacked taillight cluster with LED elements, and sharp rear windows design.
The new-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport that will rival the new-gen Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor, is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2016 or early 2017.
