Honda has unveiled the next generation Civic Concept, which previews the future design philosophy for the Civic range. A series of patent design sketches of the next generation Civic Sedan and Coupe have been leaked online.
The Japanese automaker introduced the stunning Civic Coupe concept at the 2015 New York Auto Show. This concept previews the tenth generation of the Civic, which is likely to be launched in the US market by the end of this year. The patent images of the production spec Coupe and Sedan version also suggest that the vehicle is ready to hit the market. The Civic family will also include the hatchback, Si and Type R models.
The production-spec model looks less aggressive as the concept, but there are similarities that indicate that the Type R version could look very close to the concept. The production-ready Civic does not have rear wings. It features interconnected taillights, sloping roofline (sedan), boomerang-shaped taillights, five-spoke alloy wheels and chrome grille.
The next-gen Honda Civic will have a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs than the previous model. It will also be lower and wider than its predecessor. Under the bonnet is a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo engine, which will be paired to either short-shifting six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The vehicle will be equipped with several advanced safety and security features including Forward Collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, etc.
