Jim Farley, Executive Vice-President at Ford for Global Marketing, said, “We crafted this car with the goal of creating a contemporary interpretation of Mustang - an American icon that symbolizes optimism and freedom.” During the car's bright career comprising 50 years, more than nine million units of this model have been sold by the automobile giant. Though it is not the best-selling car of Ford, Mustang has the highest name recognition as per its officials, which brings other models of this make into the limelight. Jacques Brent, Group Marketing Manager for Sports Utility Vehicles and Large Cars, said, "It's an emotional connection to the rest of the brand."

Ford Mustang, however, has got stiff competition in terms of sales. Chevrolet Camaro, which had followed the Mustang to the commercial market, has outshone the Ford model in the last three years and is set to do it for the fourth time in a row, according to Kelley Blue Book. The new model comes with three choices in engines. For those who would yearn for the cruising power, the Mustang GT will have an upgraded 5.0 litre V-8 engine that produces nearly 420 bhp. There will also be a variant equipped with 3.7 litre V-6 engine, which will generate a maximum of 300 bhp. There are also talks that the new Mustang will be incorporated with the turbocharged EcoBoost engine, for those customers who would look for power as well as fuel economy.

The car is currently sold overseas but is limited only to a few destinations. The new model has been launched with a right-hand-drive option, which hints towards plans of the automobile giants towards a global market. It is expected that after its release, the model will be introduced in India, which has shown huge promise in segment of luxury cars. Chief Engineer of the company, Dave Pericak, has stated in this respect that the model has been designed keeping in mind global demand. However, there was no influence of this factor to implement the car with a right-hand-driving system. In this respect, the car has also been designed to meet the international driving and emission standards hinting towards its global marketing in the near future.
