      Mercedes Benz to use Micra's 1.5 L K9K diesel engine in upcoming A Class hatchback

      German automotive major Mercedes Benz will source the 1.5 L dCi K9K diesel engine produced by Renault-Nissan alliance. This engine will be used in the entry level variant of the upcoming Mercedes Benz A Class, which will square off against the MINI Cooper hatchback from the stables of its rival BMW as well as the Volkswagen Beetle. The powertrain is presently used in the Renault Pulse and Nissan Micra hatchbacks as well as the Renault Fluence premium sedan in India.

      The A Class will be a part of the line-up of four Mercedes Benz hatchbacks expected to come to India in the coming three to four years. Speculation is rife in the market that the car will be assembled at the company's plant in India at the time of its domestic roll out. This car is expected to have segment-leading performance, mileage and emissions, which are attributed to a versatile range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines that are supplemented with advanced Start/Stop technology,

      Mercedes Benz A Class A180 CDI variant will be assimilated with this fuel efficient engine that has displacement of 1461 cc and generates 108 bhp of maximum power and 260 Nm of highest torque. The mileage delivered by this car will be close to 26 kmpl, whereas its CO2 emissions will stand at 98 g/km, the least for any model offered by this car maker nowadays.

      Along with this entry level diesel variant, the A Class will come with two other diesel versions and three petrol editions. The A200 variant will be powered by a 1.8 L unit that produces up to 134 bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque, while delivering economy of 23 kmpl. A220 CDI, the top variant of A Class, will run on a 2.1 L motor that offers peak power of 168 bhp and maximum torque of 350 Nm. It will be able to move from standstill to 100 kmph in a span of just 7.8 seconds.

      The portfolio of petrol variants of Mercedes Benz A Class starts from the A180, which is equipped with a 1.6 L unit that can generate 120 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. Its mileage is expected to be approximately 18 kmpl, while the CO2 emissions will be 128 g/km. Next in line is the A200, which runs on the uptuned version of the same engine and can produce power of 154 bhp and torque of 250 Nm. The top-of-the-line petrol variant of the car is the A250, which comes with a 2.0 L turbocharged engine that can offer power up to 208 bhp and torque up to 350 Nm. Equipped with an all-new seven speed automatic transmission system with dual clutch, this car is able to move from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds and achieve top speed of 240 kmph while delivering fuel efficiency of 16 kmpl.
