According to a report, the Mercedes-Benz GLC that was unveiled on June 17, 2015, will be launched in India in Q3-Q4 2016. Since the company is planning to bring-in the Mercedes GLA and GLE, the GLC will help the company bridge the gap between aforementioned products.

For the global markets, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC will be available in the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options. The base variant GLC 220 offers a maximum power of 170bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the GLC 250 d and GLC 250 petrol deliver 204bhp with 500Nm and 211bhp with 350Nm respectively. All the engines will be mated to a 9G TRONIC automatic transmission, combined with 4MATIC AWD drivetrain. If reports are to be believed, Mercedes might add a less-expensive RWD variant to the global lineup by the next year. The same trim can be offered as a base variant in the Indian market too.

Based on Mercedes' MRA rear-wheel-drive platform, the GLC features a twin-slat chrome grille with large air inlets, new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 5-spoke alloy rims, bold shoulder creases, a roof spoiler, wrap-around horizontal tail lamps and dual exhaust system. The interior of the GLC will share resemblance with the C-Class, but it will offer more generous legroom for rear passengers.

Features on offer will be ARTICO leather upholstery with silver and wood trim, updated Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system with a free-standing touchscreen with a center tunnel integrated touchpad, and optional panoramic sunroof and multi-chamber air suspension AIR BODY CONTROL.

Upon its launch, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC will rival the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and the upcoming BMW X3.
