Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury carmaker, that launched the performance oriented CLA 45 AMG in July, 2014, is now gearing up for the launch of the regular CLA sedan. Set to rival the Audi A3 sedan, the CLA sedan is expected to go on sale in January-February 2015 in the Indian car market.

Based on the A-Class hatchback, the Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan is equipped with a muscular front bumper and long bonnet that accommodates aggressive lines flowing upwards to meet the A-pillar. The front fascia features a single slate chrome grille with Mercedes’ three-pointed star placed in the centre. It also gets Bi-xenon headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, but as an optional feature. The sloping roofline offers a coupe like profile to sedan, while the rear end largely resembles the larger CLS.

The interiors of the Mercedes-Benz CLA are directly sourced from the A-Class hatchback, and are specifically designed to attract young buyers. Its cockpit is equipped with an aircraft-inspired round air conditioning vents which are surrounded by chrome inserts and four round analogue gauges on the instrument cluster. The vehicle is equipped with a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The gasoline version is the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that churns out a maximum power output of 120bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. The oil burner is the 2.2-litre 4-cylinder unit that produces 107bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines are coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox which sends power to the front wheels of the car.
