      Maruti Suzukis workers at Manesar put forth a list of 20 demands

      The recently restructured workers’ union at the country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility has put forth the demands for rising the salaries much before the scheduled wage negotiation meet with the company management.

      Maruti Suzuki Workers' Union (MSWU) at Manesar has placed ahead a list of over 20 demands that has been shortlisted within this organized body. The demands have been submitted seeking the approval of the management and news are making rounds that the upper level members in the union have commanded a five-fold salary hike.

      Mr. Sarabjeet Singh, MSWU General Secretary was quoted as saying on this hike proposal, "We have submitted our demand list to the company management on April 18. It has about 20-22 different points."

      The workers’ demand list comprises of greater number of casual and privilege leaves, calculation of DA (Dearness Allowance) along with the basic salary, transport facility within the range of 100 kms from the plant and assistance to employees for seeking economical accommodation facility.

      At this plant, currently, the salary of a permanent worker designated as Junior Associate-1 (JA-1) earns a total salary of Rs. 15,000-17,000 per month with break up stated as Rs. 5000 basic pay, Rs. 150 DA, Rs. 1600 travel allowance, Rs. 1400 as HRA with an amount of Rs. 200 for uniform maintenance, which is summed as the fixed pay. The variable pay however, totals to Rs. 7000 to Rs. 9000.

      The union has declined to disclose the details of the demands that are submitted as it is planning to disclose the results which will emerge after their negotiations with the company and deliberations about the list.
