Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's largest passenger car maker, is working on software development for its iconic Swift hatchback in order to amend the feedbacks received from its customers stating soft braking issues at low speeds. However, the company refused to announce any technical recall for the model.

Since the launch of new generation Swift in August 2011, around 2.5 lac new models are plying over the Indian roads. Reportedly, several customers have been reporting the issue, which has left a dent on the MSIL's reputation on the grounds of safety measures. According to reports, during low speeds of around 10 to 15 kmph, the brake pedal of Swift becomes little harder on persistent braking, which is a significant problem in busy city traffic.

After receiving a number of complaints on this issue, the company officials have directed the dealers to check the models of their selective customers and should frame a report on the same. However, the officials have not disclosed any such information yet and have rather said, “There is no recall of Swift in India. We have no issued any technical or engineering checks on the car so far.”

Confirming the above statement, the apex automotive lobby, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) had said that there has been no declaration of any recall from the end of Maruti Suzuki for its Swift hatchback. However, the company has not termed it a safety problem for the alleged braking issue anywhere in India. With effect from July 2012, SIAM has declared a voluntary code of conduct through which the auto makers express their consent to roll back models, which are found to have been defected in the code.

Globally, the issue raised in Swift is not for the first time as in earlier this year, Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC) had announced a worldwide recall of around 1.09 lac Swifts to fix a repair, which would had led to fuel leakage. The models recalled by the auto maker were manufactured between September 2010 and April 2012.
