      Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) launched the next generation Elantra Fluidic sedan on August 13, 2012 in the country's passenger car market. Since its launch, the car became a front runner for driving the sales of the company, largely due to its youthful and futuristic looks. The car became an instant people favourite and impacted the sales of the mass puller Toyota Corolla Altis, which till then had a smooth ride in the Indian market.

      Interestingly, the young Indian generation have developed a tremendous fan following for the Hyundai Elantra Fluidic and have termed the Toyota Corolla Altis as a car for old timers.

      The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Fluidic saloon shows off its Fluidic designs and curves from every possible angle, besides enchanting Indian audience with its aerodynamics. The front fascia of the car looks futuristic with the hexagonal grille and the Fluidic concept reeks from every attribute of the well made Hyundai product. However, the simple lines and curves of the Toyota Altis seems obsolete and the Elantra Fluidic definitely appears modern and sophisticated than the former. Both the cars cater to a different clientele, with Corolla Altis finding comfort oriented buyers, while young generation getting enamoured with the fiery looks of the Elantra Fluidic.

      The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Fluidic features a1.8 litre petrol and a 1.6 litre diesel engines under their hoods. The 1797 cc DOHC petrol engine churns out a maximum power of 147 bhp and peak torque of 181 Nm. The power-mills incorporated in the cars come mated with a six speed manual and automatic transmission, besides the powerful car marks 0-100 kmph in just 10 seconds with a top speed recorded of 200 kmph. On the other hand, Toyota Corolla Altis incorporates a 1794 cc, 16-Valve, 4-cylinder, Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing – intelligent) diesel powerplant. The engine delivers an impressive power of 138 bhp and a maximum torque of 170 Nm, which is further assimilated with a 6-speed manual transmission. The compact saloon sprints from 0-100 kmph in a mere 14 seconds with a top speed of 185 kmph.

      The interiors incorporated in both the cars conform to the requirements of the segment and have all the trimmings of a modern sedan. The Hyundai Elantra boasts of a gamut of comfort and security features, besides the best-in-class instrument cluster catches one's instant attention. The Toyota Corolla Altis features sublime interior attributes but overall feels more like a traditional sedan. Thus, the car attracts fewer young buyers as compared to Hyundai Elantra.

      The youngsters contribute to a major fraction of the total population of the country and look for powerful, modern and sophisticated looking products in the market. Hence, the new Hyundai Elantra Fluidic had a slight advantage over Toyota Corolla Altis with its better power performance and enchanting exquisite looks.
