The Indian car market is rarely hospitable to a particular model for more than five or six years but there are some exceptions to that fact. Maruti Suzuki Swift, one of the most popular models in history, turned ten years in May, 2005, which tells a lot about its success in the country’s market. According to certain figures, 1.3 million units of this car have been sold till date and experts believe that is a phenomenal number to achieve. It not only speaks volumes about the car but the brand and its goodwill as well.

Maruti Suzuki has worked really hard over the years to ensure that Swift hatchback sustains its success in the Indian market. The continuous marketing, launching upgraded versions at the right time and keeping in mind customer requirements are things that the firm has done brilliantly. Not surprisingly, the firm was rewarded with Car of the Year Awards on both occasions when the model (2005) and its overhauled version (2011) were launched.

There is something about the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Indian market that goes beyond the commerce and economics. Just like the Maruti Suzuki M800 hatchback, Swift has an emotional connection with customers across India. Cost-effective, stylish and fuel efficient, Swift has everything one would want from a hatchback. Swift has also created a loyal fan base for itself over the ten years it has been in the market.

RS Kalsi, Executive Director at M&S, spoke about the Swift model and its accomplishments. “Over 1.3 million Swift cars have been bought in India so far, transforming the landscape of the Indian auto industry and inspiring new products, market segments and categories. Over the years, the Swift has evolved in features, looks and technology, often defining the changes in aspiration and preferences of Indian car customers,” he was quoted as saying.
