      Maruti Suzuki sales increase by 3 per cent in December 2012

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited, country's largest passenger car maker, has reported a growth of 3.24 per cent in its total monthly sales for December 2012 with figures standing at 95,145 units. According to the company statement, during same tenure of 2011, the auto maker managed to deliver 92,161 units. In December 2012, the domestic sales of car maker stood at 82,073 units with an increase of 5.93 per cent against 77,475 units sold in year-ago period.

      However, exports of the company during the month were reported at 13,072 units, marking a fall by 10.99 per cent under the review of 14,686 units shipped in December 2011. The total passenger car sales of the company in domestic market also fell at very nominal rate to 68,729 units against 69,329 units sold in corresponding month of 2011.

      The sales of MSIL's mini-segment cars, including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, stood at 32,797 units during the month, reporting a fall of 15.02 per cent against 38,593 units delivered in December 2011. In compact segment, which includes models like Estilo, Swift and Ritz, the auto maker reported sales of 22,482 units with a growth rate of 8.86 per cent under the review of 20,653 units delivered in same tenure of 2011. Interestingly, the demand for company's flagship model DZire increased by massive 42.30 per cent with 13,076 units sold during the period against 9,189 units delivered in December 2011.

      However, the sales of mid-sized sedan SX4 stood at 329 units in December 2012, registering a fall of 60.97 per cent against 843 units delivered in year-ago period. Demand for luxury sedan Kizashi also fell by 11.76 per cent during the period, resulting to 45 units as against 51 units sold in the year-ago month.

      In Utility Vehicle (UV) segment, including Gypsy, Ertiga and Grand Vitara, the company sold 5,447 units with around 23-fold growth rate, under the review of 238 units sold in year-ago period. However, the demand for Omni and Eeco have marginally dipped from 7,908 units to 7,897 units in December 2012.
