Following the Punjab and Haryana high court’s directive to the striking workers to vacate the company premises at Manesar, the Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has started partial production at its Manesar unit. The workers vacated the company premises on Monday, ending a 10 day long sit-in protest at the plant. The company managed to produce 350 units of its high in demand – Maruti Swift – on Tuesday. In total the company manufactured a total of 480 units of Swift including the production at both Gurgaon and Manesar plant.

In a statement given on Monday, a senior company official said, "The entire focus is to get the production normalized. We have over one lakh Swift customers waiting and we want to deliver the cars as soon as possible."

As compared to production of 1700 units on Monday, the Gurgaon plant production raised by 50 units to 1750 units on Tuesday. Still, the production was much lesser to the capacity of 2800 units per day. The Gurgaon plant has been witnessing partially halted production due to worker’s strike at the key component supplier Suzuki Power-Train India Limited (SPIL).

The management and union leaders again started negotiation on Tuesday. There were two rounds of meetings on Tuesday, one each in the morning and evening. However, the talks remained inconclusive on the second day too.

Since June 2011, there have been three strikes by the worker’s at the Manesar plant of the company. The company has lost the production of over 60,000 units, so far.
