      Mahindra U301 to be unveiled on July 30, 2015

      Mahindra & Mahindra might announce the official name of its upcoming SUV – the U301 (code-name) – on July 30, 2015. The company will also reveal its strategic details for the Indian automotive industry. To be the spiritual successor of the Bolero, the Mahindra U301 will target the semi-urban and rural areas. The vehicle has been caught testing several times in India.

      The Mahindra U301 will be based on the new ladder frame chassis that also underpins the new Scorpio. It will be lighter and more compact than the existing Bolero. Inside, the car will be equipped with a large central screen with touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel design, power windows, Bluetooth, AUX-in and USB connectivity and air conditioning unit. With a long wheelbase (over 2, 500mm), the SUV is likely to be offer a generous cabin space.

      Powering the U301 will be a four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine lineup. The SUV might get the Quanto’s 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. Though, it will be tuned for better fuel efficiency. The U301 is expected to among the most fuel efficient cars in its segment. Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed manual and an AMT (automated manual transmission). According to reports, Mahindra might offer the SUV with choice of two seating configurations – 5-seater and 7-seater.

      The Mahindra U301 is expected to be launched in India sometime in August - September, 2015, within the price range of Rs. 6.50 lakh - Rs. 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the Ford EcoSPort, Chevrolet Tavera and Tata Sumo.
