Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback, known as the YRA or Fronx has been spotted in Shimla, reported Gaadiwaadi.com. The car is expected to be launched in September this year and will go up against Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto Evo and Honda Jazz. The hatchback is mainly targeted for Japan but it will be made in India.
The car was released as iK-2 concept during the Geneva Motor Show, earlier this year and going by the spy shots, it looks ready for production. It may feature MSIL’s three cylinder BoosterJet engine which is a 1.0 litre petrol mill churning out 67 bhp and 90 Nm of torque. The diesel variant will have a four cylinder 1.5 litre engine producing 100 bhp and 200 Nm. Some experts suggest that it might get another diesel option that will be a 1.3 litre engine giving out 88 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. This one will surely get automatic variants and the price is expected to range between Rs. 5.5-8.0 lakhs.
But, there are rumours that the car may feature all new engines in the form of K12B and K14B which are being developed by the company. It will be sold through the company’s exclusive NEXA showrooms which currently house S-Cross only. This is MSIL’s first attempt in the premium hatchback segment in India and since it rules in other small car segments, it is expected to do the same with YRA too.
Lots of chrome can be seen in the spy pictures. The front grille is lined in chrome and so are the door handles and window lines. The dashboard might also have bit chrome on its corners. It will get 15 inch alloy wheels which might come as an extra and not standard. ORVMs and projector headlamps can also be seen in the photos. The handling and performance of the car can only be known after it is tested by our experts after it is launched.
