Mahindra TUV300 and Ford Ecosport both are compact SUVs but attract different kind of buyers to a certain extent. However, as both fall in the same price band, it makes it our job share a quick comparison of the duo. The Ford Ecosport recently got some updates and this is where it has got LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and auto headlamps.
The TUV300 and the Ecosport both are powered by a similar sized engine, however it is the TUV300 that has an edge when it comes to drivability in city. This even includes manoeuvrability and all round vision. The Ecosport has better driving dynamics and stability as well. This is where the Ford shines over the TUV300.
Both have a 1.5-litre diesel engine with similar power output and come mated to a five-speed manual transmission too. The TUV300 feels like an SUV with upright driving position and tall gearknob, while the Ecosport has more seating like a car with a short gear knob and car-like steering wheel position.
The TUV300 is more spacious and is a seven-seater, while the Ford can seat five only. But it is the Ford Ecosport seats that are more comfortable and there are more features available on the Ecosport. The Ecosport has keyless entry, push start and stop, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, six airbags and artificial leather also. All this comes at Rs 1.2 lakhs (ex-showroom) more, which translates to about a lakh and a half. This makes the Ecosport a better deal than the TUV300 if we consider only value for money aspect. When we consider the Ecosport (lower variant) and TUV300 at the same price, it is the Ecosport that shines still.
If you need an SUV that is good to be driven on bad roads and mostly rural part of the country, then the Mahindra TUV300 is the correct choice. The Ford Ecosport is more of an urban SUV. It clearly depends on your needs.
