Apart from the intense hatchback rivalry between Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors India, the two auto giants are involved in a gruesome territorial dispute in the premium sedan segment of the country as well. Currently, the revamped Hyundai Verna Fluidic is luring away the buyers of Maruti Suzuki's premium sedan SX4 and the next i20-Swift action is in the offing. Evidently, the average Indian car buyer is perplexed as in to go for the sheer luxury and class of Hyundai Verna Fluidic or towards the reliability of Maruti Suzuki SX4.

Looks wise, the Verna Fluidic beats the SX4 sedan from every possible angle and corner, besides the Korean product has a big alluring quotient in its overall package. The SX4 sedan features looks and feel of a top draw vehicle and its simple and sober appearance is its USP. Considering the growth of the SX4 over the years, the car caters to a more mature audience as against the Verna Fluidic, which is currently enticing the younger population due to its stylish good looks.

The real difference lies in the engine specifications of the Hyundai and Maruti products. The Hyundai Verna Fluidic features a 1.4 litre petrol powertrain with four cylinders in-line configuration, which churns out a peak power of 120 bhp and a maximum torque delivery of 158 Nm. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki SX4 comes assimilated with a 1.6 litre, sixteen valves, DOHC, VVT power-mill that belts out a maximum power-torque output of 104 bhp 145 Nm, respectively. Both five speed manual and four speed automatic transmission systems are available in the petrol models of Verna Fluidic and SX4. Thus, considering the power and performance output, the Hyundai Verna Fluidic comes out as a winner against Maruti Suzuki SX4.

At present, the Verna Fluidic is available within a price bracket around Rs. 7.2 lacs and Rs. 11 lacs in the Indian sedan market. Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest passenger car maker, offers the SX4 saloon to Indian car enthusiasts at a price frame between Rs. 7.1 lacs and Rs. 9.8 lacs. Hence, from the monetary quotient the SX4 seems to be slightly over hyped considering its limited engine performance, but the car definitely carries better reliability and the brand name of Maruti Suzuki. The Hyundai Verna Fluidic can be considered a master product in the segment and no significant point comes up as why Indians should not go for it.
