      Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire & Honda Amaze - Which one to choose?

      Sedans have a class of their own and when it comes to the Indian market, automobile lovers are spoilt for choice. There are so many options in this segment that it is tough to make an individual choice. If seen closely, there can be three proper brackets, into which the sedans in the Indian market can be classified. The entry level models, which are priced up to 10 lakhs INR, form the first segment. The second category comprises all those models, which are priced between 10 lakhs INR to 25 lakhs INR. Finally, the third segment consists of premium sedans, which are priced above the 25 lakhs INR bracket. Let us take a look into the deeper aspects of the diesel variants of three most popular entry-level sedan models in the Indian market – Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Swift Dzire.

      When it comes to the mechanistic details, there is a marked difference among the three cars. The Hyundai Xcent is powered by an 1120 cc 12V, U2 CRDi mill, which makes 71.01 bhp at 4000 rpm. The torque output of the car is 180.4 Nm at 1750 to 2500 rpm. When it comes to the Maruti Swift Dzire, the engine in the car is a 1248 cc 16V DDiS diesel mill. Power generated from this engine is 74 bhp at 4000 rpm and a torque output of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. The Honda Amaze gets a 1498cc motor which makes 98.6 bhp of power at 3600 rpm. It also makes a torque of 200Nm at 1750rpm. All three cars are front wheel drive sedans and are offered with a standard five-speed manual transmission

      The fuel tank capacity of the three sedans is comparable. While Amaze comes with the smallest one at 35 litres, Swift Dzire and Xcent are back to back at 42 and 43 litres, respectively. However, there is a marginal difference in the mileage of the three cars. When it comes to the city mileage, Xcent scores the least at 18.9 kilometres per litre, while Amaze is slightly ahead at 21 kilometres for each litre. However, Swift Dzire is a clear winner in this segment with a city mileage of 22.4 kilometres per litre. When it comes to the mileage on highways, Xcent gives an average of 24.4 kilometres, Amazes returns 25.8 kilometres, while Swift Dzire soars high at 26.59 kilometres for a litre. The diesel models are comparatively priced as well – Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Swift Dzire are both priced at 7.8 lakhs INR – Honda Amaze is just a bit expensive at 8.2 lakhs INR.
