Hyundai Motors India limited has decided to phase out its model Getz from the Indian car market. It has already introduced its replacement model i20 in the market which is powered by the new Kappa series engine. In overseas market, Hyundai phased out Getz first and then introduced the i20 model. However, in the Indian market both the models have co-existed since a long time.
Hyundai Getz sales have fallen sharply since past few months but Indian customers have taken Hyundai i20 very well and sales have been quite good since its launch.
Hyundai also intends to introduce another small car model by 2011. Mr H.S. Lheem, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HMIL said, “We plan to phase out the Getz. We are also working on a new small car that could potentially sport an 800 cc engine”. This year, it has plans to bring its new SUV model Santa Fe to India. Hyundai had earlier introduced Tucson but it has given disappointing results in India.
