Hyundai's Tucson had earlier failed to make an impact in the Indian market. Now the company is ready to introduce its best selling SUV to the Indian market. Hyundai Motors India Limited will bring Santa Fe to India by December 2010. “We will launch the Santa Fe in India this year. It will be a completely-built unit (CBU). We will consider manufacturing it as completely knocked down (CKD) unit may be after two to three years. But, that will be done after proper feasibility studies,” said H W Park, managing director, HMIL.
However, Hyundai will not phase out Tucson, nor will it give a facelift to the existing platform. Saxena further added that both the models will not compete with each other as both will be built on different platforms.
Hyundai has not revealed the final price or specifications of the model that will hit the Indian roads later this year.
Besides the Santa Fe, Hyundai is also planning to introduce an 800cc car in the Indian market by 2011. It is also planning to launch a face-lifted Hyundai i20 model in domestic market.
