      Hyundai India sales dip 4.8 percent in February 2011

      Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), the country’s largest car exporter and the second largest car maker, has reported a 4.8 percent decline in its sales in Feburary 2011. The company said in a statement, "HMIL's total sales for February 2011 stood at 52,007 units as against 54,610 units in February 2010, registering a decline of 4.8 percent."

      However, in the domestic market, Hyundai India registered a 5.3 percent increase in its sales. The company managed to sell a total of 32,629 units in the Indian market during the month as compared to 31,001 units sold in the same month last year.

      The exports of the company saw a 17.9 percent dip during this month. The company managed to dispatch 19,378 units to the overseas market during Feb 2011 as compared to 23,609 units in February 2010.

      Commenting on the company’s Indian performance, Mr. Arvind Saxena, director, marketing and sales, HMIL, said, "Hyundai recorded positive growth supported by steady sales of its compact cars. We expect the average industry growth rate to stabilize in the future months."

      The total sales of company’s compact cars (including Santro, i10, and i20) stood at 47,167 units, while the total sales of A3 segment (Accent and Verna) stood at 4,685 units. The sales of Hyundai Sonata Transform and SUV Santa Fe stood at 29 units and 126 units.
