Hero will be launching the Duet and the Maestro Edge today. These will be their completely new set of scooters from ground-up. The Duet and the Maestro Edge will be powered by an 110cc engine that will be built by Hero without any inputs from Honda. These are the first set of products that do not involve any of Honda’s technology.
Hero is moving away from Honda and it will be by 2017 when the Indian bike maker will be selling solely its own products. The Hero brand is looking at increasing its market share in the scooter segment with these two scooters. The Maestro Edge will be the second generation of the Maestro and this time it will be powered by a new engine and will look a lot more stylish too. Hero is targeting the Maestro Edge against the Activa 3G, while the Duet will be a more feature-loaded scooter.
The Duet will be more affordable and the Maestro Edge will be the volumes gainer for Hero. Honda is currently the dominant player in the scooters segment and Hero will not want to miss out on cashing on this fast growing segment.
