Volkswagen seems to be plagued with issues as first it was the cheating on emission results, which has already caused enough damage to the image of the brand and now the German manufacturer has brought its plans to develop a 10-speed DSG transmission on a halt. This unit that was supposed to develop an excess torque of 551Nm. VW was making this unit to beat its arch rival Mercedes-Benz in emission results.
This unit, if developed, was to be equipped in the Passat and Golf. Touted as the successor to the erstwhile six-speed offering, the new DSG box would have brought down the CO2 emissions considerably. Unfortunately, citing huge development costs and complexity in manufacturing as a primary reason, Volkswagen will not be going ahead with the development of this unit.
This advanced 10-speed DSG unit was supposed to power models from Audi, Seat and Skoda too in addition to Volkswagen.
