Hero MotoCorp, the largest two-wheeler maker in the world, has started its operations in Peru, which is counted among the largest markets for two-wheelers in Latin America. It must be noted that this move has come within days of auto maker's announcement of its expansion plans to around 50 countries by the end of this decade. Reportedly, these plans were declared at the unveiling ceremony of Hero's 50 millionth bike, which was rolled out from its Gurgaon facility. With its foray into Peru, the two-wheeler maker has roped in MOTOCORP S.A.C, which is a part of EFE Group, as its domestic distributor.

It must be noted that the auto maker has established a large distribution network in Peru with as many as 85 dealerships all over the country. Along with, the company is also looking ahead to subsequently add more dealerships in a phased manner. The brand was introduced by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal, in the presence of MOTOCORP S.A.C President, Jamie Prieto.

Expressing his delight at the launch ceremony, Munjal was quoted as saying, “Our new international markets will play a crucial role in the future as we move forward with the objective of surpassing 100 million units in cumulative sales by 2020. Peru, therefore, plays a significant role in our plans to expand our global footprint. Our vision is to provide convenient, fuel-efficient mobility to every customer in this market, and with our wide range of products, we are committed to serving two-wheeler customers across Peru,"

Interestingly, other Indian manufacturers like Bajaj and TVS Motors have been already performing in 300000 units two-wheeler market of Peru. The Japanese manufacturers Honda and Yamaha are also present in Peru. Sources close to the development process stated that Hero immediately undertook a massive brand building program, in order to quickly carve its brand value in Peru.

Interestingly, Colombia happens to be the only country in Latin America, wherein Hero was operating since the time of earlier Hero Honda. Sources further said that the company is also planning to set up a production base in Colombia before the end of 2014.
