      General Motors India to launch Chevrolet Sail and new Chevrolet Captiva this year

      With the exponentially rising demand for the small segment cars, automakers in India are targeting to capture this high demand segment to ensure deeper penetration and expansion of their product portfolio. Following the track is the country’s fifth largest car maker, General Motors (GM) that marks its presence in India with the brand Chevrolet.

      The auto giant is outlining its plans to add another compact hatchback, Chevrolet Sail, which is anticipated to hit the Indian roads in the 3rd quarter. Moreover, the Chevy brand favorers can also witness another new launch in the form of a latest version of the compact crossover SUV, Captiva along with a new MPV (multi purpose vehicle) in this year.

      Mr. Sumit Sawhney, the Vice- President (Sales), General Motors India, said that, "We would be launching the Sail in Q3, and the small car segment along with the multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) will continue to be our main focus."

      The new launches are aimed at attaining a greater stake in the Indian market, which currently pertains to 6.5 percent.

      Mr. Lowell Paddock, the President and Managing Director of GM India, was quoted as saying, "The high interest rates and the rise in fuel prices had made the market sluggish but we expect it to improve shortly. We hope to increase our market share significantly."

      Demand for small cars, specifically diesel powered small cars is currently driving huge sales volume owing to which General Motors will introduce these new cars in the Indian market in both petrol and diesel variants with increased focus on diesel run cars.
