Post Ford’s successful entry in Compact SUV and hatchback segment, the American carmaker is now keen on working a good position in the compact sedan segment in the country. Ford is planning on launching the new Figo for the domestic market sometime next year. The Brazilian Ford hatchback named Ka is also expected to be launched in the Indian market. The upcoming version shall replace the current generation of Figo line in the country.
The new upcoming Ford’s production plant in Gujarat shall be used to produce the new compact sedan. The India bound model shall be based on KA+ sedan sold in the international market. The Figo sedan shall be a strong competitor against Honda’s Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and Zest sedan in the country. As stated to ET by sources, “The current generation of Figo has been doing duty since March 2010 and has helped establish Ford in India. However, it is time that it makes way for the new3-generation model which is currently under development to tune it for Indian conditions. This should be out by next year. It will be a case similar to Maruti's Swift hatchback and its mid-size version, the Swift Dzire. There has been a fatigue which is increasingly being noticed with Figo when it is compared to newer models that have been launched by other companies.”
Ford India had recently launched the face lifted version of Figo hatchback in the country at an attractive price of about Rs. 3.87 for the petrol trim, whereas diesel has been launched for Rs. 4.83 Lakhs. Both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi based. The pricing aspect is unknown for now and may only be known post an official launch announcement made by the company in this regard.
