Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will face tough competition

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger car manufacturer, is planning to cash in on the festive season. Call it the hard work and brilliant strategy-making prowess of Hyundai and Honda or the slowness of the market, Maruti Suzuki’s dominance; somehow, has lost a bit of ground in the past one year. While Hyundai Grand i10 completely outdid Maruti Suzuki Stingray last year, Celerio, too, has not been able to make any significant impact. A combination of all these reasons has put a great deal of pressure on Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, a mid-sized sedan set to be launched on 6th of October. The segment in which this model is going to compete already has a high number of cars that are doing really well and will make life difficult for Ciaz.

The mid-sized sedan segment has multiple cars, such as Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Fiat Linea and Ford Fiesta. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, certainly, would be expected to compete with Honda City and Hyundai Verna but whether or not it will do so, only time will tell. A closer look at the model might be able to help someone analyse the chances of success of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is quite attractive and that could be a huge factor that influences its success. Though if one looks at it from an objective point of view, most Maruti Suzuki cars are usually not super attractive but do manage excellent sales. Be it convenience or comfort features, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz certainly have a wide range to offer to customers.

Therefore, it is clear that Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will have to score high on two remaining but huge factors, price and fuel economy, in order to compete with City and Verna. Pricing is something that Maruti Suzuki is an expert at strategizing and the same could be done to unsettle the market of Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Nevertheless, those two sedans have huge customer bases and deterring that on just pricing would be tough. Also, the mileage figures of both these cars are pretty good and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz would have to be exceptional in performance to have any chances.

Since expansion of market size is near impossible, Ciaz will have to pinch customers from models like Linea, Vento and Verna. A few industry experts, speaking to Economic Times, said, "The success of a model in the sedan segment means it should sell more than 2,000 units per month. The features offered at very competitive pricing could attract a lot of new customers, but we would be looking at revising our volume estimate only if it attains critical size."

To put things in a nutshell, it is evident that despite being launched right in the middle of the festive season, there is no guarantee that Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will set sales registers ringing. However, the name Maruti Suzuki is enough to make a vehicle successful in India and Ciaz, reportedly, has already started getting a large number of bookings. In addition, Maruti Suzuki is marketing this car aggressively and has signed Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as its brand ambassador, something that might boost sales in the short run.
