Compact is the new mantra in the domestic market, a slew of compact SUVs, MPVs and sedans are lined up to be launched in India in upcoming months. Compact SUVs have particularly caught the fancy of car makers and one such auto company is Ford India. After Figo, EcoSport is another product from Ford’s stable that has been able to appeal to the customers. EcoSport’s popularity is evident as the vehicle has not only been in demand ever since its launch in India, but it has also been felicitated with various awards including ‘Car/SUV of the Year’, “Viewer’s/Reader’s choice’, ‘technology’, ‘Launch of the Year’ and ‘Value for Money’ awards. A total 30 awards have been bestowed upon the new SUV from Ford’s stable.
Ford delayed EcoSport’s launch to June 2013 yet it managed to attract gush of bookings. EcoSport currently attracts a long waiting period of six months. If the company does not come up to a viable resolution soon it might lose its customers. Looking at the long waiting period for the SUV, Ford needs to ramp up its production in order to clear the backlog and suffice growing demand. Also rival SUVs like Duster could get benefited as customers might not want to wait for such a long time for the SUV to be delivered.
Presently, Ford has an impending order of 20,000 units, out of the 60,000 bookings it managed to deliver 40,000 vehicles with 20,000 orders left still to be completed. Ford has apparently asked its vendors to intensify supply of raw materials necessary for the production of EcoSport. Hopefully, the company would look for a way to accelerate EcoSport’s production and will be able to able to deliver the remaining orders.
