Ford India, the domestic division of American auto maker, has said in a statement that the prices of its well appreciated Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Endeavour are likely to increase. The statement has been released owing to the hike in excise duty from 27 per cent to 30 per cent, which has been declared by the country’s Finance Minister in the Union Budget. Confirming this statement, the President and Managing Director of Ford India, Joginder Singh said, “Endeavour prices will be impacted due to this.”
This statement from Singh was quoted at the sidelines of Ford EcoSport’s unveiling ceremony. Speaking on the same lines, the Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Services) at Ford India, Vinay Piparsania said, “Endeavour prices have to go up because of the duty hike.” Speaking on whether the hike in excise duty would also impact the pricing of EcoSport in Indian auto market, Singh said that the experts of Ford India are already looking into the matter. “But we will try that it does not impact prices,” he added later.
Expressing his views on the launch of EcoSport in India, Singh said that the auto maker has already showcased the compact SUV to the Indian audience with an innovative campaign, which will provide a chance to 100 lucky winners to drive EcoSport before its launch. Reportedly, this type of programme is first of its kind in the Indian auto market. Singh said, “This campaign will start from May and only after its completion we will start booking.” However, he did not disclose the exact pricing of EcoSport to be offered to the domestic buyers.
Coming back to the Ford Endeavour, the model has been offered in three engine options, namely 3 litre 4x4, 3 litre 4x2 and 2.5 litre 4x2. Both the 3.0 litre engines have a displacement of 2953 cc, which churns out a maximum power of 154 bhp at 3200 rpm with a highest torque of 380 Nm at low 2500 rpm. The 2.5 litre engine option has a displacement of 2499 cc, which belts out a peak power of 141 bhp at 3500 rpm and maximum torque of 330 Nm at fairly low 1800 rpm. Industry experts believe that as the prices of Ford Endeavour are expected to be increased in a near time, the auto maker is likely to witness dip in its demand among the Indian buyers.
