Fiat has planned a slew of launches for the Indian car market this year, among the new car launches, Avventura crossover underpinning Punto hatchback will be a new entrant in the crossover segment. The Italian auto maker displayed Avventura Concept at the 2014 Auto Expo held in the month of February at Greater Noida. Rumour mills are buzzing that Fiat could launch Avventura crossover in domestic market by September or October. Crossover segment is yet to get its due in India, though it has been present for a while, but with a handful of options now available for customers, crossovers might catch attention of buyers. In the crossover segment, Avventura will compete with the likes of newly introduced Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo.
The new product range planned by Fiat for India aims at strengthening the car maker’s presence in domestic market and help it gain volumes. Fiat has been testing the crossover aggressively across the country, our sources got their hands on the latest information related to the vehicle according to which the production version will miss out on some of the equipment featured on the concept version at the 2014 Auto Expo. On the exterior front, Avventura will feature projector head lamps, dual tone bumpers and body cladding will be present all over the body.
Under the hood, the crossover is expected to come with the same set of engines as offered on the Puno hatchback. Petrol variants could come with two engine options including a 1.2 litre and a 1.4 litre motors. Diesel powered variants might get Fiat’s renowned 1.3 litre Multijet diesel powerplant that is featured in diesel variants of many popular models of other car makers. Fiat could place Avventura crossover amid Punto and Linea in terms of pricing.
