Tata Motors’s woes do not seem to be coming to an end where its star project Tata Nano is concerned. First it had to quit nearly finished plant in Singur in West Bengal owing to fierce protests from farmers led by opposition party Trinamool Congress. It had to set up a completely new plant in Sanand, Gujarat which delayed the project by another one and half year and increased the project costs multiple times. Finally, when Tata Motors has been able to deliver the cars from its plant in Uttrakhand to meet the initial demand, the cars are coming out as faulty.

Last year, three Tata Nanos that caught fire standing in the parking lots at various places in North India created a furore over its safety and quality specifications. Now, two lethal incidents when two of the Nanos caught fire while being driven on the road are raising doubts again.

Satish Sawant, who purchased his Tata Nano in Mumbai was victim of car fire recently. He intends to approach consumer court and seek compensation of Rs. 15 lakh from Tata Motors over faulty Nano that could have cost him his life.

"Last week, Concorde Motors sent me a cheque of Rs 2.25 lakh, the cost of the car including accessories, to settle the issue. After discussing it with my family and friends, I accepted the cheque and deposited in the bank to settle my loan. But the issue is yet to be settled and this amount can not be termed as compensation," said Sawant.
