Nissan revived its low-cost brand- the Datsun to increase its market share in the growing nations including India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. The company launched the Go hatchback, but it failed to generate volumes in the country. Now, Nissan is gearing up for the launch of second Datsun product- the Go+ MPV in the early, 2015. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the company unveiled the Redi-Go concept. If media reports are to be believed, the company will launch a tall boy hatchback based on Redi-Go in 2015; however, the exact launch details of the car is yet to be announced.

Interestingly, the small car will be priced lower than the Go hatchback in India. Based on the CMF-A platform that also underpins the Renault XBA small car, the Redi-Go will directly compete against the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. It will be produced at Nissan and Renault’s manufacturing unit in Chennai. It will specifically develop for the Indian market, and will later hit other markets.

The Datsun Redi-Go based small car will be powered by a three-cylinder 800cc petrol engine, that will also power the upcoming Renault XBA small car. The company will not launch the diesel powered model; however, the vehicle would get petrol, LPG and CNG fuel options. The Redi-Go based hatchback will be priced around Rs. 2.5 lakh, and will mainly compete against Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
