      Datsun may export Go hatchback internationally depending on demand overseas

      The Go hatchback from the Datsun brand has been a huge hit in the local market. As per reports, the Go hatchback has already sold over 5000 cars since its launch in the country. Going by the popularity of this hatchback, the Japanese automaker has decided to open standalone dealerships of its low cost brand. The exquisite Datsun showrooms will be launched in India within next six months. Currently, the Datsun Go hatchback is being sold in the country by parent company, Nissan’s outlets in India. Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan Motor India, said, “The transition has been smooth, and we are in the process of strengthening our sales, marketing and service teams. Almost all dealers have come under our fold. We have also received a lot of proposals from our existing dealers to open exclusive outlets for Datsun brand. We will make decision on those proposals by the end of this month.”

      The Datsun Go hatchback has been a new entrant in the Indian small car segment. The Datsun Go is currently being offered in three variants - D, A and T trims in four different interesting shades. The hatchback is offered at a price of Rs. 3.12 lakh for the entry level model, while the top spec model costs Rs. 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Datsun brand has drove Nissan’s sales by almost 50 per cent with 2691 units of GO hatchback sold in April, Datsun is definitely gaining momentum in the domestic market. Standalone showrooms will give a further boost to the sales of the hatchback and will in turn help brand to strengthen its roots in India. With other Datsun cars lined up to be launched in India soon, an independent dealership network will help assure customers of a strong after sales service provided by Datsun.

      As per a latest update the Datsun brand has been working towards achieving a full capacity at the Oragadam plant. Kenichiro Yomura, MD and CEO of Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL), said, “It’s only a matter of time. Later in the year we plan to reach full production capacity.” Hinting on a possibility for export, Yomura added, “It is a tailor made car for India. But if there is someone who wants it, then we are happy to export it.”
