Nissan, the Japanese auto maker, seems prepared for the launch of its low cost hatchback, Datsun Go in the Indian auto market. The model was unveiled during early 2013 and is expected to make its presence in the Indian market soon. It must be noted that with the launch of Go, Datsun will mark its re-entry in the automotive arena after 32 years. Reportedly, the name of Japanese brand's new car has been inspired from its first model, DAT-GO, which was launched almost ten decades ago in its domestic market.

The Go hatchback from Datsun happens to be a spacious vehicle and is said to be longer than the Nissan Micra. Coming to its technical specifications, the model comes equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which performs well on Micra. However, its configuration might be different as Datsun Go will be tuned to deliver brilliant fuel economy, than performance, in order to efficiently compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki's hatchbacks. It is anticipated that the maximum power churned out by the engine of Go will measure at 6o bhp, which is quite enticing for an entry level hatchback. It is also reported that in later stage, a diesel version of Go will also be introduced, featuring the K9k engine from Micra. With the launch of a new model, Nissan Motor Company is planning to capture 10 per cent share of the Indian passenger market by the end of fiscal 2017.

Industry experts are of a view that with Datsun Go, Nissan India will be competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark. It is believed that the production version of Datsun Go will be identical to the model unveiled in early 2013. Sources further said that the GO has been designed on Nissan's much acclaimed V-platform. Datsun will be producing its Go hatchback at Nissan's Oragadam unit, in Chennai, which will take its cost down. It is expected that the base variant of upcoming Go will carry a price tag of sub-Rs. 4 lakh.

Interestingly, Datsun happens to be the third global brand for Nissan. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the Japanese auto maker has framed some aggressive plans for the Indian auto market as it is looking ahead to introduce 10 new models by 2016. In the line up of new launches, a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), Datsun GO+, is also on the cards of the company. Post launch, Go will be placed below the base variant of newly launched Micra Active.
