Nissan’s low cost brand Datsun will be launching its first car in India, GO hatchback on 19thMarch, 2014. The hatchback will be a part of the A segment and will compete with cars like Maruti Alto 800, Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Eon. Production of the hatchback has already commenced at Renault and Nissan’s manufacturing unit located in Chennai. Datsun has also started taking bookings for GO hatchback at a very low token amount. Out of the ten products that Datsun eyes launching in India, GO is the first car that will debut on March 19th. The rest of the cars will be launched in the time period of two years by 2016.
What will give GO an upper hand over its rivals is the segment best cabin space which is usually not proffered in small cars. A 1.2 litre, four cylinder engine will be equipped inside the hatchback with a capacity to produce 76 Bhp of maximum power and 104 Nm of top torque. The engine will be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission, this is the same engine that powers Nissa Micra hatchback. Datsun, however has made some modifications to the petrol mill to yield enhanced performance.
Inside the cabin, features like mobile docking station will be equipped. This feature enables users to connect their smartphones to the system. Datsun is expected to price GO hatchback aggressively, the vehicle could fall in the price range of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
