Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to launch a compact SUV in India, reports Autocar India. According to the latest report and spy shots, M&M may be planning to introduce a compact variant of Xylo in the Indian auto market which will compete with entry level SUVs like Premier Rio. The car has in fact been spotted testing in hot summers of Rajasthan.
Compact Xylo variant is expected to be powered by 1.5L engine and will have a length of less than 4m that complies with small car norms. The car will have a seating capacity of 5 people and a smaller boot space than the existing model. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 5 lakh for those who wish to experience the driving pleasure of SUVs in urban living.
Mahindra has not formally introduced the model or stated whether it is a Xylo compact variant. The car may be christened with a completely new brand name that may start a new mini-SUV segment in the country. The car goes on sale in 2011 in India.
