General Motors has been planning to launch its new model, Chevrolet Cruze, in the C-segment of Indian car market. The company has been facing tough times in recent past and has been contemplating the right time to launch its new model in India. It has done serious cost cuttings, including the delay of the launch of its new models. Chevrolet Cruze was initially slated for a launch in 2010. However, looking at the present situation, the launch of this fuel efficient model from Chevrolet may be delayed by at least one year. The next generation, Chevrolet Malibu, has also been delayed by at least six months and may be launched only in 2013.

GM spokesperson Dee Allen confirmed delays in new product launches stating that new car programs “are going to shift around a bit.” Chevrolet Cruze was developed by GM’s global design and engineering team. The car will be built in multiple locations around the globe. This 5-door hatchback was expected to go on sale in Europe in 2009 and make its foray in India in mid-2010. If launched in India, Chevrolet Cruze will be available in 1.6 litre and 1.8 litre petrol and 2.0 litre turbo diesel engines, which are extremely fuel efficient.
