      BMW India removes X5 from its website

      BMW India has removed the second generation BMW X5 from its official website. Vehicle’s upgraded version recently made appearance at the 2014 Auto Expo held in GreaterNoidain February and was speculated to be launched in India anytime between July and September. However, we suspect that BMW couldpre-pone the launch in India as X5’s predecessor has been removed from the company’s website. The third edition of BMW X5 boasts of numerous cosmetic changes, the vehicle seems to have borrowed design and style cues from its siblings.

      The front facade of the SUV looks robust; it shares similarity with F30 Series. New X5 has a sporty semblance, thanks to sharp lines present all over the vehicle, apart from this,new roof rails, skid plates, boot lid spoiler and new alloy contribute towards the sporty stance of the SUV. Successor model of X5 promises enhanced cabin space, several new equipments will also be proffered. Besides these changes, BMW could equip third generation of X5 SUV with an advanced technology, driver assists and a refined version ofiDrivesystem.

      No changes will be made under the hood, the SUV will continue to be offered with 4.4 litre twin turbocharged V8 gasoline engine good for 408Bhpand 600Nm. This engine was housed inxDrive50i variant of the SUV, on the other hand,xDrive30d variant was packed with a 3.0 litre flat-six diesel unit that engenders a top power and torque output of 245Bhpand 540Nmrespectively. These two engines will be seen in the new X5 petrol and diesel variants. Power will be transmitted to front and rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. BMW plans to bring new X5 as a completely knocked down unit and assemble it at its Chennai facility.The SUV will compete with otherSUVsin its segment including Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
