      Beat Electric displayed by General Motors

      General Motors India, a subsidiary of the US based leading car maker Chevrolet, on Thursday unveiled all new electric version of its compact hatchback Beat in India. The car was showcased as a part of company’s global demonstration of the technology.

      Speaking to reporters, GMI President and MD Karl Slym, said, "We are delighted that Chevrolet selected India as an important market to test battery electric technology, while recognizing the capabilities of our engineering team to help identify ways to make this technology more affordable."

      Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the Beat electric is capable of covering 130 kms in a single charge (under normal driving conditions). The new electric car technology will now be showcased in a number of other countries including Korea, China and Germany.

      Meanwhile, the company is busy in the final preparations of the launch of a diesel version of Chevrolet Beat in the Indian market. Powered by a 1.0L engine, the Beat diesel promises a high mileage of 24 kmpl. The car is scheduled to hit the Indian roads in the month of July this year, and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4 to 5 lakh.
